Deleting your account is the most radical and irreversible solution. It reduces the number of active accounts on Musk’s network. You can also choose to "freeze" your account instead.
Everyone has the choice, of course, to keep or delete their account on X. The important thing is to clearly state that, starting January 20th, original content will be posted on other networks like Mastodon or BlueSky.
On X, you can choose between deleting your account or leaving it inactive.
Deleting your account has the advantage of avoiding the temptation to return. It is also the option that inconveniences Musk’s company the most, as deleting your account clearly signals your departure. However, be aware that after 30 days, your login/username becomes available again, posing a risk of identity theft.
Freezing your account allows you to preserve your identity and/or archives on X. This simply means no longer posting anything on the platform. You can also unfollow accounts to further devalue your profile in Musk’s eyes.
For organizations, it seems quite reasonable to freeze their accounts and ask all members to do the same without necessarily deleting them.
In any case, it’s best to request your account archive from X, which will allow you to restore content on other networks. And don’t forget to uninstall the X app from your phone.
